Our private Morocco tours give your group its own vehicle, its own driver and a route planned around your dates, interests and pace. A private Morocco tour means one vehicle, one driver and one plan — all for your group only. You decide when to leave in the morning, where to stop for photos and how long to stay. Our private Morocco tours run from 4 to 14 days and start in Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakech or Fes. Every route is built around the Sahara at Merzouga, because that is where our team comes from.

Several itineraries include a guided day in Fes el-Bali, which UNESCO lists as the Medina of Fez, one of the largest car-free historic centres in the world.
Below you will find how private tours work, a simple guide to choosing a length, our ready-made itineraries, and how to ask for a custom route.
How our private Morocco tours work
- Your own vehicle. A modern air-conditioned 4×4 or, for larger groups, a comfortable minibus. Nobody else joins.
- Your own English-speaking driver for the whole trip. He drives, handles logistics, suggests lunch places and helps with local know-how.
- Your own pace. Stop at a viewpoint, skip a visit, start later — within what the day’s distance allows.
- Rooms and tents just for you. We use riads and hotels with private rooms, and a desert camp where every tent has its own shower and toilet. We do not use basic camps with shared bathrooms.
- A fixed quote before you book. No online checkout; you agree the plan and price with us first.

What your driver is — and what he is not
This is a common point of confusion, so we want to be clear.
Your driver is: a professional driver who knows the roads, the towns and the south of Morocco well. He will explain what you are seeing along the way, recommend restaurants, help with translation and keep the day running smoothly.
Your driver is not: a licensed city guide. In Morocco, guiding inside historic medinas and monuments is done by officially licensed local guides. So in places like Fes, Marrakech or Aït Ben Haddou, we arrange a local guide where one is included or requested [CONFIRM which itineraries include guides]. Your driver will take you to the meeting point and wait.
In the desert, our camel handlers and camp team are local Merzouga people who know the dunes.

Pick a length: which itinerary suits you?
| Days you have | What is realistic | Desert nights |
|---|---|---|
| 4–5 | One crossing of the country with one night in the Sahara. Long driving days. | 1 |
| 6–7 | Desert plus one or two northern cities (Fes, Chefchaouen). A balanced first visit. | 1–2 |
| 10 | Most main regions at a comfortable pace, with free time. | 2 |
| 14 | The full loop including the coast, with rest days. | 2 |
A good rule: add one day for every place you want to explore on foot, not just drive past.

Why plan your trip with a team from Merzouga?
Most Morocco itineraries are designed in Marrakech and treat the Sahara as one stop. We start from the other end. Morocco Desert Excursions was founded by Sahara natives from Merzouga, so we plan the desert part first and fit the cities around it:
- We run our own camp. Your desert night is at Mouhou Luxury Camp in Erg Chebbi, with private en-suite tents. Read what a night at our camp looks like.
- We know the desert timing. Arriving for sunset, the right season for a second night, and when to choose a 4×4 instead of a camel.
- We plan realistic drives. We tell you honestly which days are long, and where an extra night makes a real difference.
How to get a custom itinerary — 4 steps
- Tell us your plans. Send your dates, arrival and departure cities, number of travellers, ages of any children, and what matters most to you (desert, cities, hiking, food, photography). Use WhatsApp or the contact form.
- Receive a tailored itinerary and quote. We send a day-by-day plan with accommodation options and a fixed price. Ask for as many changes as you need.
- Confirm your booking. Once you are happy, we confirm in writing. Deposit and payment details: [CONFIRM deposit % and payment methods].
- Travel. Your driver meets you at the airport, hotel or port on day one, and our team stays in touch throughout the trip.
How the price of a private tour is built
| Factor | Effect on price |

| Number of travellers | The biggest factor. One vehicle and driver cost is shared — 4 people pay much less each than 2. |
| Number of days | More days means more vehicle, driver and accommodation costs. |
| Accommodation level | Standard riads and our camp, or upgraded rooms [CONFIRM options]. |
| Season | Spring, autumn and holiday periods can cost more [CONFIRM]. |
| Guides and extras | Licensed city guides, activities, extra transfers. |
| Group size | Typical 7-day price per person |
|---|---|
| 2 travellers | €940 |
| 4 travellers | €590 |
| 6 travellers | €474 |

Are private Morocco tours right for you?
Private suits you if: you are a couple, family or group of friends; you want flexibility; you have young children or older travellers who need more breaks; or you want to customise the route.
A shared tour may suit you better if: you are travelling solo or on a tight budget and are happy with a fixed route. Even on our shared desert tours, each party has its own room and its own tent.
Frequently asked questions
Is a private tour much more expensive than a shared one?
For two people, usually yes. For four or more, the gap gets smaller because the vehicle cost is divided between more travellers. Ask for both quotes if you are unsure [CONFIRM shared option available on that route].
Can we change the plan during the trip?
Small changes — a longer stop, a different lunch place, skipping a visit — are easy and happen every day. Bigger changes, such as adding a night or switching hotels, depend on availability and may change the price. Talk to your driver and our office.
Can we choose our own hotels?
Yes. We suggest riads and hotels we know, but if you have a favourite, tell us. We can include it in the quote or leave certain nights for you to book yourself [CONFIRM].
Are private tours suitable for families with young children?
Yes, and this is where private tours help most: you can stop whenever needed. We plan shorter driving days where possible and can arrange family rooms. Car seats: [CONFIRM availability]. The camel ride is usually fine for children; the 4×4 transfer is an alternative.
How far ahead should we book?
For spring, autumn and holiday dates, we suggest asking a few months ahead so preferred riads are free [CONFIRM recommended lead time]. Outside those times, a few weeks is often enough. Last-minute requests are welcome — just message us.
Can we start in one city and finish in another?
Yes. Most of our itineraries do exactly that, such as Casablanca to Marrakech or Tangier to Marrakech. One-way routes save you from driving back the same way.
Do you offer tours in French?
English is our main language and French is also spoken [CONFIRM French-speaking drivers]. Let us know when you ask for a quote.

What to include in your request
The more we know at the start, the closer our first proposal will be to what you want. You do not need a finished plan. A few clear facts are enough for us to suggest a route for private Morocco tours of any length.
- Arrival and departure: city, date and approximate time of your flights, ferry or train.
- Who is travelling: number of adults, ages of any children, and anyone who needs extra comfort or shorter walks.
- Must-sees: the two or three places that matter most to you.
- Pace: whether you prefer early starts and full days, or later mornings and more free time.
- Accommodation style: traditional riads, simple family-run hotels, or upgraded rooms [CONFIRM options].
- Food needs: vegetarian, vegan, allergies or anything else we should tell the kitchens.
How we shape a custom route
Most private Morocco tours follow the same logic: put the long drives early, keep the desert in the middle, and end somewhere calm. We look at where you land and where you fly home, then fit the Sahara in between so you never drive back the same way.
Step one: the desert night
We decide first when you reach Merzouga. Arriving in daylight matters, so we plan the day before the dunes to finish within a sensible driving distance of the camp. This is the fixed point of all our private Morocco tours, because the camp night shapes everything around it.
Step two: the cities
Fes and Marrakech each deserve at least one full day on foot if you want to explore them. A city you only sleep in is an overnight stop, and we will tell you clearly which is which.
Step three: rest days
On private Morocco tours of ten days or more, we suggest at least one day with no long drive. It can be a free afternoon in Chefchaouen, a slow morning in the Dades Valley or a day by the sea.
Choosing where you stay
On our private Morocco tours we use riads and small hotels we know well, and our own camp in the dunes. A riad is a traditional house built around a courtyard. Rooms are often quieter and more personal than in a large hotel, but some have steep stairs and no lift.
If anyone in your group has mobility problems, tell us before we book rooms. On private Morocco tours we can choose ground-floor rooms or hotels with lifts where they exist [CONFIRM availability by town].
Travelling with older relatives or young children
Private Morocco tours are often chosen by families with three generations travelling together. The main advantage is control over the day: you can stop every hour, take a long lunch in the shade or return to the hotel early.
A few things help:
- Choose a longer itinerary with fewer hours in the vehicle each day.
- Ask for the 4×4 transfer to camp instead of the camel ride if walking on sand or sitting on a camel is difficult.
- Plan city visits for the morning, when it is cooler and quieter.
- Bring snacks and a refillable water bottle for each person.
Honeymoons and special occasions
Couples often ask us to make one night feel special. On private Morocco tours we can suggest quieter riads, a later start after a long day, or extra time at sunset in the dunes. If you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary, tell us when you ask for your quote [CONFIRM what extras can be arranged at camp].
Photography and slow travel
If photography matters to you, a private tour is the easiest way to be in the right place at the right light. Tell your driver which scenes you are looking for. He can plan an early start for soft light in the valleys, or a stop above the Ziz palm groves in the late afternoon.
Keen photographers on private Morocco tours often add one extra night to the itinerary, so the best places are visited at sunrise or sunset rather than at midday.
Planning around the seasons
Spring and autumn are the most comfortable months for private Morocco tours. Summer is very hot in the south, so we start early and plan midday breaks indoors. In winter, nights in the desert and the mountains are cold, and snow can slow the High Atlas passes.
The season also affects the route of private Morocco tours. In winter we may suggest a lower road if a pass is closed. In summer, we often recommend more time in the cooler north, such as Chefchaouen, and a shorter stay in the hottest valleys.
Money, tipping and costs on the road
Bring cash in dirhams for lunches, drinks, small entrance fees and tips. Card payment is common in larger city hotels but limited in the south. Cash machines are easy to find in cities and larger towns, but rare between some desert stops.
Tipping is customary in Morocco but always your choice. Guests on private Morocco tours often tip their driver at the end of the trip, and camp staff at the camp [CONFIRM suggested tip guidance].
More questions about private Morocco tours
Will we have the same driver for the whole trip?
Yes, one driver stays with your group from the first pick-up to the final drop-off, so you get to know each other and he gets to know your pace [CONFIRM for all routes].
Can we add activities such as hiking or cooking classes?
Ask us when you request your quote. We can include some extra activities on private Morocco tours if they fit the route and the time available [CONFIRM which activities are offered].
Can we combine Morocco with Spain?
Yes. Many travellers cross by ferry between Tarifa or Algeciras and Tangier. Our routes that start or end in Tangier make this easy. See Morocco tours from Tangier to the Sahara.
Is it possible to book only part of the trip with you?
Yes. Some travellers book the desert section privately and arrange city stays themselves. Tell us which nights you want us to plan and we will quote for those days only, with the same driver, vehicle and camp standard as a full trip.
