This 2 week Morocco itinerary from Casablanca balances long journeys with lighter days, so you see the whole country without rushing. Two weeks is the length at which Morocco stops feeling like a list of stops and starts feeling like a journey. This private 2 week Morocco itinerary begins in Casablanca and loops through the north, the imperial cities, the Sahara and the south, then ends with a coastal finish in Essaouira. It is built with four lighter days spread through the trip, so you have time to rest, wander and recover from the long drives.

On Day 4 you stop at Volubilis, listed by UNESCO as the Archaeological Site of Volubilis, one of the best-preserved Roman towns in North Africa.
What makes this version different from shorter tours: two nights in the desert, three in Fes, a night in Ouarzazate to break the journey across the south, and two days on the Atlantic coast in Essaouira.

The rhythm of the trip
We plan this itinerary around a simple rule: after a long drive, the next day should be calmer.
| Week 1 | Drive | Week 2 | Drive |
|---|---|---|---|
| D1 Casablanca → Rabat | Short (~1 h) | D8 Sahara day | None |
| D2 → Chefchaouen | Medium (3.5–4 h) | D9 → Todra → Dades | Medium (~5 h) |
| D3 Chefchaouen | Rest | D10 → Skoura → Ouarzazate | Short (~2 h) |
| D4 → Volubilis → Meknes → Fes | Medium (4–5 h) | D11 → Aït Ben Haddou → Marrakech | Medium (~4 h) |
| D5 Fes guided | On foot | D12 Marrakech | Rest |
| D6 Fes | Rest | D13 → Essaouira | Medium (~3 h) |
| D7 → Merzouga | Long (7.5–8.5 h) | D14 → airport | Medium (3–4.5 h) |
All times are approximate driving times before stops. There is only one long driving day — Day 7, from Fes to the Sahara — and it is followed by a full day in the dunes.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Casablanca → Rabat
Your driver meets you at Casablanca airport or your hotel. If guided visits suit your arrival time, see the Hassan II Mosque [CONFIRM visit times/days]. Drive about an hour to Rabat for a light afternoon around the Kasbah of the Udayas and the Hassan Tower. – Overnight: Rabat [CONFIRM accommodation] · Meals: [CONFIRM dinner]
Day 2: Rabat → Chefchaouen
About 3.5–4 hours north into the Rif mountains. Arrive by early afternoon and take your first walk through the blue lanes. – Lunch: not included · Overnight: Chefchaouen [CONFIRM] · Meals: Breakfast [CONFIRM dinner]
Day 3: Chefchaouen — rest or hike
No driving required. Spend the day at your own pace in town, or take an optional day walk in the hills around Chefchaouen or to the Akchour waterfalls [CONFIRM availability, transfer and price]. – Overnight: Same accommodation · Meals: Breakfast [CONFIRM dinner]
Day 4: Chefchaouen → Volubilis → Meknes → Fes
About 4–5 hours of driving with two stops. Visit the Roman ruins of Volubilis (UNESCO, 1997), then make a short visit to Meknes — the Bab Mansour gate and El Hedim square [CONFIRM time and inclusions]. Arrive in Fes in the late afternoon. – Lunch: not included · Overnight: Fes riad [CONFIRM] · Meals: Breakfast [CONFIRM dinner]
Day 5: Fes with a licensed guide
Explore the Fes el-Bali medina (UNESCO, 1981) on foot with a licensed local guide [CONFIRM included]: the Chouara tannery from above, madrasas, the outside of Al-Qarawiyyin and artisans at work. Your driver is not a city guide, so we use a local professional for this day. – Overnight: Same riad · Meals: Breakfast [CONFIRM dinner]
Day 6: Fes — free day
Your second full day in Fes, with no plan. Go back to the souk corners you liked, try a cooking class or a hammam [CONFIRM — optional, extra cost], or simply rest before the drive south. Your driver is available for short trips such as the Merenid tombs viewpoint [CONFIRM driver availability on free days]. – Overnight: Same riad · Meals: Breakfast [CONFIRM dinner]
Day 7: Fes → Ifrane → Midelt → Merzouga (camel ride, first desert night)
The long day: around 460 km, 7.5–8.5 hours before stops. Photo stops in Ifrane and the cedar forest (Barbary macaques — please don’t feed them), lunch in Midelt, then the Ziz Valley. At Merzouga, ride a camel into Erg Chebbi for about [CONFIRM camel ride duration] — or go by 4×4 — to Mouhou Luxury Camp, where every party has a private tent with its own shower and toilet. Dinner and campfire with Berber drums. – Overnight: Mouhou Luxury Camp · Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Day 8: The Sahara — a day to slow down
After sunrise and breakfast, the day is open. You might take an optional 4×4 loop to Khamlia (Gnawa music), a nomad family and the seasonal lake, visit Rissani market (traditional souk days Sun/Tue/Thu — verify), try sandboarding, or just rest in the shade [CONFIRM what is included vs extra]. Sunset on the dunes, second night at camp — or at a Merzouga hotel such as Kasbah Le Berger or Riad Madu, or similar [CONFIRM]. – Overnight: Camp or Merzouga hotel · Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Day 9: Merzouga → Todra Gorge → Dades Valley
About 280 km, roughly 5 hours. Pass through Rissani and the oasis villages; visit Todra Gorge, with walls of around 300 m, and have lunch nearby. Arrive in the Dades Valley in the afternoon. – Overnight: Dades — such as Riad Gabsi or Ksar Sultan, or similar [CONFIRM] · Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Day 10: Dades → Kalaat M’Gouna → Skoura → Ouarzazate

Pass through Kalaat M’Gouna (rose festival in May), then a stop in the Skoura palm oasis near Kasbah Amridil [CONFIRM inside visit]. Arrive in Ouarzazate early. In the afternoon you can optionally visit Atlas Studios or Taourirt Kasbah [CONFIRM entrance fees not included].
Why stop here? Without this night, the drive from Dades to Marrakech is 6–7 hours. Splitting it lets you see Ouarzazate and reach Aït Ben Haddou the next morning, before the day-trip crowds. – Overnight: Ouarzazate — such as Riad Amlal or Dar Chamaa, or similar [CONFIRM] · Meals: Breakfast [CONFIRM dinner]
Day 11: Ouarzazate → Aït Ben Haddou → Tizi n’Tichka → Marrakech
About 200 km, around 4 hours plus the Aït Ben Haddou detour. Visit the UNESCO-listed ksar of Aït Ben Haddou (1987) in the morning. Cross the High Atlas via Tizi n’Tichka (approx. 2,260 m, photo stop). Telouet kasbah can be seen on a side road if the road and site are open [CONFIRM — status uncertain since the 2023 earthquake; view from outside or visit only if open]. Arrive in Marrakech mid-afternoon. – Lunch: not included · Overnight: Marrakech [CONFIRM] · Meals: Breakfast [CONFIRM dinner]
Day 12: Marrakech — free day
A full day for the souks, Bahia Palace, the Majorelle Garden or a hammam. An optional guided walk with a licensed Marrakech guide can be added [CONFIRM price]. Prefer to get out of the city? Swap this day for an optional trip to the Ouzoud waterfalls (about 2.5–3 hours each way) [CONFIRM extra cost]. – Overnight: Marrakech · Meals: Breakfast
Day 13: Marrakech → Essaouira
About 190 km, roughly 3 hours west across the argan country to the Atlantic. Essaouira’s walled medina (UNESCO, 2001) is relaxed and breezy after the heat of the south. Walk the ramparts, see the fishing port, and eat fresh fish by the harbour. – Overnight: Essaouira [CONFIRM accommodation] · Meals: Breakfast [CONFIRM dinner]
Day 14: Essaouira → Marrakech or Casablanca airport
A free morning by the sea, then your driver takes you to your departure airport: Marrakech (about 3 hours) or Casablanca (roughly 4–4.5 hours — estimate) [CONFIRM which endpoints are offered and price]. Please share your flight time so we can plan a safe departure from Essaouira. – Meals: Breakfast

Price and how it is calculated
A two-week private tour is a larger investment, so we keep the price breakdown clear. Your quote reflects:
- Group size: the vehicle and driver are booked for 14 days. More travellers sharing them means a lower price per person.
- Days with and without the vehicle: on free days in cities, you may not need the vehicle [CONFIRM how free days are priced].
- Accommodation level: standard riads or upgraded rooms throughout, or a mix — for example, an upgraded riad in Fes and standard elsewhere.
- Guides and extras: Fes guide [CONFIRM included], optional Marrakech guide, optional activities.
- Season and end point: peak dates cost more; finishing in Casablanca adds driving.
| Travellers | Per person — standard | Per person — upgraded |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | €1,920 | On request |
| 3–4 | €1,220–€1,454 | On request |

Is two weeks right for you?
Choose this if you want to see the whole country without exhausting yourself, if you are travelling as a couple or older travellers who value rest days, or if you want to end the trip by the sea rather than in a busy city.
Choose something shorter if you have less than 12 days. The 10-day Morocco itinerary from Casablanca keeps the two desert nights and the Chefchaouen day but drops the Ouarzazate night and Essaouira. If you would rather base yourself in Marrakech and see the coast in a day, our Essaouira day trip from Marrakech is an alternative to Days 13–14.
Practical tips for a long trip
- Pack for three climates: cool and possibly wet in the north and Middle Atlas; hot by day and cold at night in the desert; windy on the coast at Essaouira.
- Laundry: many riads offer a laundry service for a small fee — useful in Fes (3 nights) and Marrakech (2 nights) [CONFIRM].
- Desert bag: two nights’ worth of clothes in a small bag; main luggage stays in the vehicle or is handled by the team [CONFIRM].
- Cash: carry dirhams; top up at ATMs in larger towns.
- Food: vegetarian and vegan meals on request; tell us about allergies in advance.
- Season: spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) suit the full loop best. In summer the south is very hot; in winter, snow can close the Tichka pass or the Middle Atlas roads briefly, and we may adjust the route.
Frequently asked questions
Is two weeks too long to spend with a driver?
Most guests find it comfortable because the driver is not with you every hour. On free days in Fes and Marrakech you explore on your own or with a local guide, and your driver rests [CONFIRM driver arrangement on free days]. On driving days, you set the pace for stops.
Why do you include a night in Ouarzazate when shorter tours skip it?
It cuts a 6–7 hour day into two easy ones. You arrive in Ouarzazate early, have time for Atlas Studios or the Taourirt Kasbah, and see Aït Ben Haddou the next morning, when it is cooler and quieter.
Can the tour finish in Casablanca instead of Marrakech?
Yes, we can drive you from Essaouira to Casablanca airport on Day 14 [CONFIRM price]. Allow roughly 4–4.5 hours of driving and leave a generous margin before an international flight. An evening flight is safest.
Do we have to sleep in Essaouira?
No. If you prefer, spend three nights in Marrakech and visit Essaouira as a day trip. The overnight gives you the quiet evening and morning when the day visitors have gone, which many travellers enjoy.
Can we replace a rest day with something else?
Yes. Popular swaps are the Ouzoud waterfalls instead of the free day in Marrakech, or a cooking class in Fes. Tell us what you like and we will adjust the quote.
How much luggage can we bring?
One medium or large suitcase per person and a day bag is fine in our vehicles [CONFIRM luggage limits by vehicle type]. For the desert nights you will only take a small bag to camp.
What is the best month for this two-week loop?
April, May, October and early November are usually ideal across all regions. March and late September also work well. July and August are very hot in the south; December to February brings cold desert nights and possible mountain snow.

Budgeting for daily extras
Your quote covers the main costs, but a 2 week Morocco itinerary also has small daily expenses. Plan cash in dirhams for lunches, drinks, entrance fees, optional activities and tips. ATMs are easy to find in cities, less so in the desert and mountains.
Travelling during Ramadan
The dates of Ramadan move each year. Tours run during this month, but some cafés and restaurants close in the daytime, and towns are quieter until sunset. If your 2 week Morocco itinerary falls in Ramadan, we can plan lunch stops and evening times around it [CONFIRM].
Staying well on a long trip
- Drink bottled or filtered water and carry a refillable bottle.
- Ease into street food over the first few days.
- Use the lighter days to rest rather than filling them with extra visits.
Two weeks is long enough that pacing yourself matters. A 2 week Morocco itinerary with built-in rest days helps you enjoy the last week as much as the first.
How far ahead to book
For spring and autumn dates, ask for your 2 week Morocco itinerary quote two or three months ahead if you can. Popular riads in Fes and Chefchaouen and the tents at camp can fill up early [CONFIRM].
Can we change the route?
Yes. On a private 2 week Morocco itinerary you can add a third desert night, swap Rabat for more time in Casablanca, or end with an extra night in Essaouira. Tell us what you would like and we will adjust the plan and quote.
